Since mid-2001 Jim and Patti had been looking for a way to incorporate their Christian faith and belief in God into a new and unique business idea.

After seeking God for several months, searching His Word and listening to many teaching tapes, in April 2002, Patti was relaxing and watching one of her favorite television programs. The topic of the program was how gourmet restaurants were feeding the homeless. At the end of the program, the host held up a square plate with the words, “if you’ve fed one person you’ve fed the world” written in black letters across the plate.

She recalls saying to herself, “that’s sweet but it’s not really the truth.”

Then she asked herself, “What is the truth?” And the answer came, “The truth is God’s Word.”

Then it clicked in her head -- “God’s Word, dinner plates… dinner plates, God’s Word. God’s Word on dinner plates !!” The flood of ideas started coming so fast she could hardly write them down. She kept the idea quiet for a few weeks while making “samples” of the plates at a ceramic shop and in late May of that same year, she shared the idea with Jim showing him her “place setting” of ‘not very good’ hand painted plates with Scripture verses.

Jim flipped over the idea! The two immediately started plans to form a company and on August 1, 2002, Feed on the Word, Inc. was incorporated.

The name of the company was also an inspiration from God and came from the Scripture verse Matthew 4:4 (NLT) “People need more than bread for their life; they must feed on every word of God”.
